Comb & Paper
✨✨✨
Sometimes found in the jug bands of the early 1900s, the comb and paper basically modifies the voice so that it sounds like an instrument. It is the homemade version of the kazoo. They are so much fun to play!
How to Obtain
You can make one right now with household objects! Walk into the bathroom and find a comb (or hair brush). Walk into the kitchen and find a piece of parchment or wax paper. Regular paper also works, but you may have to replace it more frequently because it absorbs more moisture (AKA saliva).
How to Learn
Fold the paper over the comb (or hold it over the bristles of the brush) and position your face so that most of your lips are lightly pressing against the surface of the paper. Sing “doo” in this position, adjusting the position of your lips until you get a distinct ‘buzzing’ sound, kind of like a trumpet. Higher pitches generally work best for beginners.
